Technical Assessment - Sound System and Acoustic Treatment for Christ Church Rio

We are currently working with Christ Church Rio, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to enhance the worship experience for your church through a full renovation of their sound system and a complete acoustic treatment design. In this article you will find an overview of the project, including the main goals and the recommended solution we have given.
Project Overview
Objective
Christ Church Rio is redesigning its sound systems to enhance the overall worship experience for both congregants and the worship team. The church currently gathers in a building from the 1940s, whose architecture favours long reverberation times. Additionally, the existing sound system is optimised for spoken word, which does not align with the church’s vision for the coming years, where worship guided by a full band will play an increasingly significant role.
In light of this, the church has sought technical advice on acquiring and installing a sound system that will meet their current and future needs. In previous meetings we emphasised that, in addition to the new sound system, acoustic treatment is crucial for achieving their goal of an improved worship experience. The impact of both audio and acoustics on the overall outcome is equally significant.
Solution
The proposed solution is to design a new sound system along with complementary acoustic treatment, specifically optimised for contemporary worship music live performances at Christ Church Rio’s main venue. This solution aims to meet the church's goal of delivering high-quality sound with appropriate levels and coverage throughout the room, while also ensuring adequate speech intelligibility.
The project will be implemented in successive stages, with careful oversight throughout the process.
